INFJs are the advocates of the MBTI world. When compared with the enneagram of personality, a few of them might identify as the INFJ 8w9.

Here, we’ll discuss who the INFJ 8w9 are and what you can expect from them.

Who is the INFJ 8w9?

INFJ 8w9s are strong-willed with a touch of protectiveness. INFJ 8w9s have harnessed their use of Fe and channel it towards protecting they love. The brute force of type 8 backs this up.

Type 8 is not the most common type of the INFJ. However, 8w9 is more probable for INFJs than 8w7s. This is because of the harmony-seeking nature of type 9. The presence of type 8 and type 9 changes the typical traits of the INFJ, as we shall soon see.

INFJ 8w9 has an equal chance of being assertive and turbulent.

What is the Core Desire of the INFJ 8w9?

The core desire of the INFJ 8w9 is to be in control. They want to control their decision, choices, and space. While doing this, they also wish to avoid conflict with others.

What is the Core Fear of the INFJ 8w9?

The core fear of the INFJ 8w9 is to be controlled. They try to have enough resources to control their destiny to avoid this.

This fear also extends to their family and loved ones. They do not want to be vulnerable.

How the 8w9 Changes the Natural Tendencies of the INFJ

1.   Willpower

The willpower of type 8 is fully present in the INFJ 8w9. Once they set their minds on a task, they usually accomplish it.

Their willpower is one of the main reasons for their success in life. While this is true, it is not always up to the level of more assertive types such as the ENTJ 8w7.

2.   More Diplomatic

INFJs are known as the advocates. They are interested in how others are treated and can be empathetic. This trait takes up new and improved meaning in the INFJ 8w9.

Because of their wing, they become more diplomatic. Thus, when they feel empathy towards a situation, they might take steps to solve the problem.

The extent to which this applies depends on their wing.

3.   Better Work Ethic

A good work ethic is not something that INFJs are famous for. However, INFJ 8w9s are more action-oriented.

This personality type understands that hard work is the only way to achieve their goals. This, combined with their willpower, allows them to work harder than most people.

4.   More Protective

8w9s are protective of their loved ones. INFJs are also very loyal people. Thus, INFJ 8w9s are fiercely loyal to those they care about. This loyalty comes with a need to protect them.

So, while the INFJ might seem accommodating and willing to compromise, they are very different when they feel threatened.

You’re waking a sleeping bear.

5.   More Confident

INFJ 8w9s are very confident people. They are aware of their threats and know how to use them to devastating effects.

This makes them reliable friends and intimidating enemies. Their confidence can make them achieve the impossible.

6.   More Realistic

INFJs are idealistic. This means they see the world as it should be, not what it is. INFJ 8w9s are different. Because they are type 8s, they are more realistic about life and their options.

This makes it easier for them to get over issues and obstacles. It’s like an additional strength that’s missing in a typical INFJ.

New Weaknesses of the INFJ 8w9

1.   Anger Issues

Type 8 and type 9 are both in the anger triad. Type 8 confronts their anger, while type 9 seeks to repress it.

Thus, you get an individual who has two ways of expressing their anger. This makes them very volatile. When they choose to repress their anger, it can make them very unpredictable.

You never know where you stand.

2.   Vengeful/Manipulative

This follows the last point. Because they are good at repressing their anger, resentment can follow. This can lead to the INFJ door slam and a series of unhurtful things.

INFJ 8w9s also have their optimal Fe in their arsenal. When things get bad or this personality type becomes unhealthy, they can become manipulative and exploitative.

3.   Stubborn

Type 8 and type 9 are two sides of stubbornness. Type 8 oozes it and doesn’t hesitate to shout it to the skies. Type 9’s stubbornness is more subtle and is often more rigid.

This is often on display with INFJ 8w9s. They have solid principles and ideas that they cling to. To let go of these principles is one of the hardest things ever.

4.   Fiercely Independent

INFJs are independent, and this only gets worse with the INFJ 8w9s. Type 8 sees asking others for help as a sign of weakness.

Thus, this personality type might need urgent help but struggle to ask for it. This has significant implications on how they progress and the choices they make.

INFJ 8w9 in the Workplace

INFJs want to work in an environment that affords them creativity and freedom. Because they are judgers, they do better when they have a defined role in the organization.

INFJ 8w9s are the same and more. They do well in leadership positions and can be great role models. This personality type has no problems working 9-5 or remotely. Their willpower sees them through.

To get the best out of the INFJ 8w9, ensure their role is creative and allows them to grow.

  1. Why would a librarian be a bad career for an INFJ 8w9?? We fight for the freedom of all people, access to information for everyone, and often support the marginalized by making opportunities and resources freely available. It’s a highly creative career, with many avenues for curiosity and learning while feeding a sense of security in order. We protect cultural history and embrace the needs to move forward. This is not a stuffy, in-the-box, detail-oriented only career. Librarians do what we do for people. Without people, you’re just a room with some books in it. This is a great career for those of us who are INFJ 8w9’s!

    • Hi JB,

If you love being a librarian, go for it! However, some of the of the things you mentioned sounds a lot like a type 1. Nevertheless, if you find it interesting as an INFJ 8w9, you should go for it.
