ISTPs are the crafters of the MBTIverse. When compared with the enneagram, some identify as the ISTP 9w8.
This article discusses the ISTP 9w8 and what you can expect from them.
ISTP 9w8s are easygoing with a sprinkle of steel. They combine the calmness of type 9s with the control of type 8s. ISTP 9w8s are more aware of their surroundings and interactions with others.
Because of their wing, they retain most of their ISTP traits. Type 9 is not the most common type for ISTPs. That title goes to type 5. So, the presence of types 9 and 8 changes some of their typical traits, as we shall soon see.
ISTP 9w8s are more likely to be turbulent than assertive.
The core desire of the ISTP 9w8 is to have and maintain inner harmony. They want to be at peace with themselves.
This desire goes beyond physical peace. It includes emotional, mental, and financial peace and harmony.
The core fear of the ISTP 9w8 is to always be in conflict. They use their introverted thinking (Ti) to avoid this.
Like most thinkers, ISTPs sometimes struggle with saying the right thing. With ISTP 9w8s, things are different.
They instinctively know what to say at the right time. This makes them more diplomatic and tactful. It also means that they get along with more people.
The impression you’ll get when you meet an ISTP 9w8 is a “chill person”.
This follows the last point. ISTP 9w8s find it easy to go with the flow. Doing this is the easiest way to avoid conflict, so why not?
This personality type will only interject when it’s absolutely necessary. This might be to defend their values or friends.
Because of their wing, when they do interject, it can be quite forceful.
The above points are all possible because of their enhanced Fe. Typical ISTPs have Fe as their inferior function. This means that it’s the least developed. This changes here.
ISTP 9w8s have learned to train their Fe. This allows them to sense people’s tones, gestures and the tension in the room.
It’s a lovely skill to have.
This follows the last point. Extroverted sensing is more concerned with the external environment. This works in sync with Fe as ISTP 9w8s can draw quick conclusions from their observations.
In this case, their observations usually focus on people and their responses to situations. This is done to avoid potential conflict.
Typical ISTPs also have this trait. It’s just much more developed or noticeable in the ISTP 9w8.
ISTPs might not do well with negotiations. However, ISTP 9w8s excel at it. They use introverted thinking (Ti) to formulate various possibilities or compromises.
This and their Fe make it easier for them to keep two warring parties happy. This comes with some benefits. First, it opens up more career options for them. For example, ISTP 9w8s will excel as arbitrators, mediators, or diplomats.
It also makes them more approachable.
ISTPs already have a problem with procrastination. This gets worse with ISTP 9w8s. Here’s why. Putting in more effort is one way to disrupt inner harmony. Plus, there’s this little thing called failure.
ISTP 9w8s prefer to stay in their comfort zone. This makes procrastination much more appealing.
The need to avoid conflict and keep everyone happy causes a few issues. One of them is analysis paralysis. ISTP 9w8s can get caught up in thinking about the best way to avoid conflict. This slows their decision-making process and can be frustrating in emergencies.
Because of this problem, people might see them as slow or indecisive.
This follows the last point. ISTP 9w8s might bend their wishes and needs to avoid conflicts. So, in a way, they are people pleasers.
However, because of their wing, they still have firm boundaries. When pushed to the wall, ISTP 9w8s will respond. You won’t like their response.
They can either tear you down with outbursts or breed resentment. When they do breed resentment, they usually have a plan to deal with it. Most times, it’s not a very healthy plan. ISTP 9w8s have the same problem.
ISTPs enjoy technical and hands-on experiences. They want to see practical results from their efforts. Because they are introverts, they can work alone or in groups.
ISTP 9w8s are similar. They also want a friendly workplace. They excel when there’s togetherness and unity in the workplace.
Ensure their role is conflict-free to get the best out of the ISTP 9w8.
